Before its transformation, this Melbourne property had a staid, traditional look. There was an uninspiring swimming pool and a series of disconnected outdoor spaces across different levels. The Franklin plan? Update the garden with a new pool, a simple, clean-lined outdoor room, an inviting seating area and a lawn play space for the children.
The main purpose was to create a seamless and versatile landscape design that establishes easy connections between what is happening within and also beyond the outdoor space. The design offered a much more contemporary response, while still maintaining some formal lines, as seen in the use of the hedging and the lines of the pool. Having filled in the existing pool, the Franklin team set about implementing the new pool which saw the unification of the existing different garden areas through the removal of the levels allowing the design to be inclusive.
All of these elements have worked to change the style of the landscape from formal to one that is minimalist and modern in influence. This backyard has been truly transformed, from a fairly ordinary and ageing garden to one that has now been given a new lease on life.
